Adam Jones missed another game Thursday, and this time the discomfort was different.Jones, who has missed all but two games since Aug. 22 with pain in his left shoulder and upper back after being struck by a pitch in Chicago, sat out Thursday with pain—not soreness.Jones was awaiting official word from the Orioles' medical staff, but his own diagnosis was that he'd miss a few days and then be back to action. Manager Buck Showalter said he'd evaluate Jones on a day-by-day basis and didn't rule out the possibility of using his young center fielder in an emergency situation.This isn't the first time Jones has missed significant time late in the season. The Boston Red Sox put a satisfactory finish on a potentially disastrous road trip. Adrian Beltre homered to spark a five-run second inning, and the Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-4 on Thursday night to win the three-game series. David Ortiz drove in two runs and J.D. Drew had three hits for the Red Sox, who moved within 6 1/2 games of idle Tampa Bay in the AL wild-card race.

The Baltimore Orioles have fortified their bench by recalling three players from Triple-A Norfolk: outfielder Nolan Reimold and infielders Brandon Snyder and Robert Andino. The moves were made Wednesday. Reimold started the season with the Orioles but was optioned to Norfolk after batting .205 in 29 games.

Rookie Brian Matusz won his third consecutive start, and the Baltimore Orioles beat Josh Beckett and the fading Red Sox 5-2 on Tuesday night to cap a memorable first month under manager Buck Showalter.

Julio Lugo left the Baltimore Orioles' game against the Angels in the first inning Sunday after a pickoff attempt hit him in the batting helmet, briefly leaving him motionless on the ground. The Orioles determined Lugo wasn't seriously injured after undergoing a CT scan during the Orioles' 1-0 victory.

Bergesen won his third straight decision with eight solid innings and the Orioles got RBI singles from Nick Markakis and Luke Scott in a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

Relief pitcher Jim Johnson has been activated from the 60-day disabled list by the Baltimore Orioles. The move was made Friday before Baltimore opened a series against the Los Angeles Angels. Johnson had been sidelined since May 28 because of inflammation in his right elbow. Johnson was 1-1 with one save and a 6.22 ERA in 10 appearances before the injury.

Center fielder Adam Jones has been scratched from the Baltimore Orioles' lineup with a bruised left shoulder. Jones was hit by a pitch from Gavin Floyd in the fourth inning of Baltimore's 7-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night. He left after the top of the inning and was held out of Wednesday's game.

Hamilton and Guerrero each hit three-run homers, Tommy Hunter earned his career-high 10th win and Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-4 Sunday to split the four-game series.

Bell hit his first two home runs, part of an unprecedented long-ball barrage against Lee that carried the Baltimore Orioles past the slumping Texas Rangers 8-6 Saturday.
